Although some individuals are mislead about dental implants, the procedure can be easily explained. First set aside ample time to discuss the procedure with your dentist or specialist. Next allow the clinician to explain everything until you fully understand. Pictures or videos are an extremely useful tool to aid in explanations. Consider all of your options and with your dentist you can determine what will be the best treatment choice.
To keep this procedure as simpllified as possible we will break it down into three parts 1.IMPLANT 2. ABUTMENT 3. IMPLANT CROWN. In addition it should be understood the time frame needed for these procedures. That time frame can range on average from 4-12 months (with more complex cases taking even more time)
1. IMPLANT At the initial surgical visit a dental implant will be placed into the area where the tooth is missing. See picture below
2. ABUTMENT In simplified terms the abutment is a prosthetic part that is fixated to the implant with a screw. This is needed so that an implant crown can be placed. See image below
3 IMPLANT CROWN. The implant crown is exactly what is described. It is a crown that is fixed to the implant abutment. This can be achieved with cement or it can also be screw retained. See image below
