Invisalign Is a Subtle,
Comfortable Way to Straighten Your Smile

Dr. Ryan Maher and Dr. Joe Olechowski provide discreet, comfortable Invisalign® treatment at their Totowa, NJ, dental practice. These custom-made aligner trays can correct overbites, underbites, gapped teeth, and other orthodontic concerns. In this way, the treatment can improve your appearance and protect your long-term oral health. Best of all, the trays are virtually invisible. Plus, you can remove them to eat and for easy cleaning. When you visit Perfect Smiles, LLC, we will explain the differences between Invisalign and braces. Then, after a complete consultation and exam, we can help recommend the right treatment for you. When you follow proper treatment protocol, you could enjoy a much healthier and more beautiful smile in just a few months.

Determining Your Candidacy

Invisalign is appropriate for a wide range of functional and cosmetic orthodontic issues. In fact, thanks to recent developments in Invisalign technology, the treatment can now address much more pronounced misalignment than it could in the past. You may be a candidate for Invisalign if you are unhappy with:

  • Crooked, overlapping teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Turned or tipped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

In particularly severe cases, traditional braces may be more suited to your needs, and we can refer you to an orthodontist if needed. Additionally, before you can begin Invisalign, we will need to address any current gum disease or dental decay.

How the Invisalign Process Works

Once you are ready to begin treatment, Dr. Maher or Dr. Olechowski will use a digital scanner to take 3-D images of your teeth. Using these pictures of your full dental arches, your dentist can design aligner trays. We will gather all the information we need for your treatment plan here in the office. You can watch the entire process, and your practitioner will show you how your teeth will shift over the next months.

The aligners are virtually invisible because they are made of clear, BPA-free plastic. They are also quite comfortable and will place a gentle pressure on your teeth.

Using the impressions and other direction provided by your dentist, technicians at an Invisalign lab will create a full series of aligners that will fit almost perfectly over your teeth. By placing a very gentle pressure on your teeth, the trays will shift them into straighter positions. You will wear a different tray every two weeks, and each one will conform to the new shape of your smile. For optimal results, you should wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat and clean your teeth.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign offers many benefits and multiple advantages over traditional braces. First, like all orthodontic treatment, it can significantly improve your appearance and your long-term health. By straightening your teeth, Invisalign can help you look years younger. Your newly straightened smile will also augment the rest of your facial features. Further, after orthodontic treatment, you will have a lower risk for decay, enamel erosion, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.

In comparison to standard metal braces, Invisalign is much subtler. The aligners are virtually invisible because they are made of clear, BPA-free plastic. They are also quite comfortable and will place a gentle pressure on your teeth. Additionally, Invisalign is convenient. Because you can remove the trays, you can continue to eat a normal diet. Food will not be trapped beneath them, and you will find it easier to floss and brush your teeth. Finally, in most cases, Invisalign costs less and takes less time than standard braces.
